How we score SEO agencies in Malaysia
Who stands behind the rankings
Malaysia SEO Agency Guide is published by Meridian Guides, which has run independent city directories for everyday services across Malaysia since 2025. Janice, Editor, maintains the rankings and oversees how the method is applied. Every Meridian site uses a published scoring method built on public customer reviews, and this page is ours. You can browse the full directory from the home page.
How the score works
Each of the 187 agencies we currently score gets a composite from 0 to 100. It is built from five measured signals, listed here from heaviest to lightest.
| Signal | Weight | What it measures |
|---|---|---|
| Sentiment | 28% | Synthesis of recent review themes: praise versus complaints |
| Rating | 26% | Google aggregate star rating |
| Volume | 20% | How many reviews, log-scaled |
| Completeness | 16% | Whether phone, website, hours and address are listed |
| Recency | 10% | How recently customers reviewed |
Why each signal matters when choosing an SEO agency
Sentiment (28%)
This carries the most weight because a star average hides patterns. Two agencies can both sit at 4.6 stars while one keeps collecting the same complaint: reports that arrive late, rankings promised and not delivered, or a account manager who stops answering after the contract is signed. Reading what recent reviews actually say is the only way to catch that. For SEO, where results take months and the client often cannot easily check the work, repeated complaints about communication or transparency are a real warning.
Rating (26%)
The Google star average is still a useful, widely understood baseline. It is heavy, but not the heaviest, because it flattens detail.
Volume (20%)
More reviews make an average harder to fluke. We scale volume logarithmically, so going from 5 to 50 reviews counts for far more than going from 500 to 545. A handful of reviews never equals hundreds.
Completeness (16%)
We check that a phone number, website, opening hours and address are all listed. An SEO agency that cannot keep its own business profile in order is worth questioning, and you need a way to contact them before you commit.
Recency (10%)
Agencies change staff and approach. Recent reviews tell you how the business performs now, not three years ago.
Honest limits
- Low-confidence scores. Agencies with few recent reviews still get a score, but it is labelled low confidence. Treat it as a rough guide.
- We synthesise, not republish. We summarise review themes in our own words and link out to Google so you can read the source reviews yourself.
- Reviews are not a full audit. A score does not test an agency's technical skill or guarantee results for your site. Use it to build a shortlist, then ask for references and case studies.
Scores are earned, never edited
Scores come from this rubric and this data only. Nobody edits a score by hand. Paid placement, when it exists, is always labelled and never changes the score. If a list's picks or order were reviewed by an editor, that list says so on the page itself.
How often data is refreshed
We refresh data monthly. Each listing carries a "last verified" stamp, so you can see when we last checked it and whether it is being actively maintained.

FAQ
- Can an agency pay to improve its score?
- No. Scores come only from the published rubric and public data. Sponsored placements, where they exist, are labelled and never change a score.
- What does a low-confidence label mean?
- The agency has few recent reviews, so its score rests on thin evidence. It is still calculated the same way, but you should weigh it cautiously.
- Do you copy Google reviews onto the site?
- No. We synthesise recurring themes in our own words and link to Google, where you can read the original reviews.
- How often is the data updated?
- Monthly. Each listing shows a last verified stamp so you can see when it was last checked.
